LOVE
This is a great sleeping bag. I am 5’8”, and the size medium is a perfect fit. I am pleasantly surprised by how roomy it is width-wise. As another reviewer mentioned, there is space inside for a bent knee. As an aside, thank you to the customer service team for helping me resolve an order issue quickly and seamlessly!
The best for women
Of the top-end sleeping bag makers, Feathered Friends is the only one that gets it right for women. The size, shape and fill adjustments they make for a women’s bag make it the best bag on the market. A couple of suggestions for the future would be to add a draft collar, an internal pocket to keep phone/battery warm and a left zipper option. But these are minor tweaks to a truly great bag.
The BEST ever!
I ordered my new Feathered Friends sleeping bag after I realized I’d be cold every night out this year in the high Sierra unless I stepped it up. My bag is a gorgeous color, with material that not only feels luxurious but is not ‘crunchy’ when you move. My bag was tough enough to weather a wet journey (a super water repellent outer coating?) and always kept me warm, warm, warm! My bag has plenty of room for a bent knee and free rolling side to side. The zipper (if pulling from the outside of the bag) is a smooth and easy pull, no snagging! I’m very very pleased with my new sleeping bag!
I’m finally warm
So far loving this bag so much!! I’ve used it on a couple backcountry trips now and can say that it’s kept me toasty warm. I’m one of those people that is always cold but not yet with this bag! I know it’s only summer still but summer in Canada in the mountains can get pretty cold at night. It feels like sleeping in a cloud. Packs down well however I would like to get more of a compression sack since it just comes with two bags which don’t compress. I am just over 5’9” and the larger size fits me perfectly. I wouldn’t want to be any taller in it. Well worth the price so far in my opinion.
Couldn’t be happier
So far I’ve used my 20* Egret YF on a 5-night backpacking trip in the eastern Sierras and a few nights of car camping in the mountains of Great Basin. The Sierras trip was way wetter than expected, first with thunderstorms then sustained heavy rain from Tropical Storm Hilary. One evening I got soaked and really cold trying to cook. I finally bailed and crawled in my sleeping bag, which warmed me up quickly and I was so thankful I decided to upgrade my bag before this trip. I get cold fairly easily, especially my hands and feet, and once I get cold, often struggle to warm back up again. We had some cold nights, including one or two with frost on the ground come morning, and I was warm throughout without wearing a lot of layers. I also have a Marmot 0* bag and while it’s hard to make a direct comparison, I feel like my Egret has kept me just as warm and it seems to warm me up more quickly, not to mention it’s way lighter and takes up a lot less space in my pack. I am 5’9” and was worried the size medium wouldn’t be long enough for me, but it fits perfectly. It was difficult for me to pull the trigger on such a big purchase, but after this trip I have no regrets.
