Great jacket!
For the money you can’t beat the materials, top quality down, top quality shell materials. Fit is spot on for my needs, I ordered a XL, I’m 6’2 180 lbs. with long arms, maybe more girth than I need but for my purpose to use as more of a belay jacket to go over a base layer and mid layer it’s perfect. Plus the XL gives me more arm length and room to move. Now the reason for 4 stars? Well I’ve read the reviews and agree with at leas one other review that the hood should be baffled not sewn through on this calibre of coat. Also I received my coat with faulty cinch locks on the hem, they easily let go of the grip, letting cold air through the bottom, not something you would want on an expedition. However I contacted Feathered Friends and instead of sending new cinch locks they sent me a cash reembursement, which me being in Canada was very economical for them, so good service. I have to question, though, how something like that slipped through quality control? Anyways I’m still impressed, if I were to make any design changes it would be as follows; baffled hood, and diagonal pockets moved more to the front than the sides. Make those changes I’ll buy another.
A satisfactory option for long periods in the cold
I found this jacket be very warm (used down to temps of -25F/-30C). Did not really explore the inner zipper system...other than frequently mis-zipping the outer zipper into it (ugh). After a few weeks working in AK, already have a few holes to mend (info on good patching options appreciated).
Khumbu Parka
The 2024 model replaced a FF version that was a couple decades old. The size L fits my 5 ft. 8 in. frame, 165 lb. well. It is less than 0.1 lb. heavier than my older version. The current double-zipper closure replaces my older 1-zip + Velcro closure. I’m unsure which closure approach I prefer. The current version’s attached hood is clearly superior to the older detachable hood.
Super quick delivery and great service
Customer service was exceptional and the jacket arrived in Australia 5 days after I ordered it which was amazing. I ordered a small and even with all my layers on it is probably too large for me, so would recommend sizing down.
The essentials in good package
This parka offers the essential in a good package: plety of warmth, few features and good balance between durability and weight for the fabrics.
